About Gusto

At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve.

All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) — because everyone who helps build Gusto should share in its success. Offer amounts are determined by role, level, and location. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.

AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto. We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process.

About the Role:

As a Staff Engineer on the Developer Productivity - AI Developer Tools team, you will be the architectural anchor shaping the AI platform that accelerates engineering across Gusto. You will redefine how our entire engineering organization builds, tests, and ships software by architecting a highly secure, context-aware, "AI-native" development lifecycle.

Your mission is to eliminate developer friction through AI tools, multi-agent systems, and intelligent automation. Whether you are building bespoke internal coding assistants, automating sprawling codebase refactors, or deploying AI to self-heal CI/CD pipelines, your work will directly multiply the velocity of hundreds of builders. Help us drive developer productivity by building the next generation of AI tools.

About the Team:

The AI Developer Tools team is a specialized team within Developer Productivity. We believe AI is the next great leap in software craftsmanship. Our goal is to provide every builder at Gusto with a suite of "superpowers" tools that deeply understand our codebase and absorb operational toil so engineers can focus on creative problem-solving. We treat our fellow engineers as our primary customers, prioritizing developer experiences that are not just powerful, but absolutely delightful to use.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Architect AI Core Infrastructure: Design, scale, and maintain the internal platform and APIs that integrate LLMs into the developer workflow, with a heavy focus on autonomous agents, custom retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and smart context-delivery systems.
  • Drive Technical Leadership & Vision: Establish engineering best practices for building with AI at Gusto, including robust evaluation frameworks (evals), guardrails for code safety, and strategies for optimizing model latency and token spend.
  • Collaborate & Evangelize: Partner closely with product engineering teams to uncover systemic friction points, and collaborate with core Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure all AI tooling is scalable, compliant, and secure.
  • Optimize Feedback Loops: Identify and eliminate critical bottlenecks in the local-to-production lifecycle at scale across Gusto.
  • Maintain Enterprise Reliability: Treat AI infrastructure with production-grade rigor. Monitor system health, diagnose complex integration or networking issues, and mitigate model drift or downtime.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 8+ Years of Systems Expertise: You are a seasoned engineer who is highly comfortable navigating massive, complex codebases and delivering production-grade, distributed software.
  • Production AI Experience: You have a proven track record of moving AI beyond prototypes. You possess a deep understanding of prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG architectures, and orchestrating multi-agent workflows.
  • Developer-First Mindset: You are passionate about Developer Experience and Productivity. You intuitively understand what makes an internal tool frictionless, fast, and empowering for other engineers.
  • Strategic Execution: You don't just build wrappers; you think deeply about data privacy, security, cost management, and systemic reliability when deploying AI solutions.
  • Exceptional Communication: You can seamlessly translate bleeding-edge AI capabilities into clear, actionable infrastructure strategies, mentoring junior engineers and aligning cross-functional stakeholders along the way.
  • Working as a Team: You work across team boundaries and bring other teams and groups along with you towards our strategic vision.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $180,000/yr to $200,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, $220,000/yr to $245,000/yr for San Francisco, New York & Seattle. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.

Engineer Staff Salesforce Architect at Marqeta

Staff-level Salesforce architect who designs and builds complex platform solutions, conducts code reviews, leads architecture decisions, and drives AI/Agentforce strategy across GTM, support, and compliance systems.

Lead Remote Posted about 14 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

As Salesforce Architect, you will be the technical backbone of Marqeta’s Business Systems team, a lean, high-impact group that serves as the internal Salesforce platform team for Go-To-Market (GTM), Product Support, and Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC). This is a heavily hands-on lead individual contributor role,  you will be writing code, configuring the platform, and directly solving hard technical and business problems, not just producing designs for others to build.

We are looking for someone who has genuinely operated as an architect, owning architecture decisions, tradeoffs, and their consequences for at least 2 years, not an engineer aspiring to grow into the title. You will set the architectural direction for our Salesforce platform, conduct code reviews, lead architecture and design sessions, build and maintain the technical backlog, proactively identify gaps in systems and processes, and independently drive solutions to completion. You will also be a hands-on builder: configuring, coding, and deploying complex solutions across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and our ongoing migration from CPQ to Revenue Cloud. You will drive our Agentforce and AI strategy, own integrations with critical systems like Ironclad, Intacct, and the broader GTM toolchain, and play a lead role in ongoing security hardening of the Salesforce org.

Your work will directly support strategic company-wide initiatives, improve customer experience, and increase productivity for internal users across GTM, support, and compliance functions.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely in the United States, only in one of our National locations, which you can review here.

The Impact You’ll Have

Architecture & Design

  • Own end-to-end Salesforce architecture across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Revenue Cloud (including our active CPQ → Revenue Cloud migration)
  • Lead architecture and design sessions, producing clear design documents, solution options, and tradeoff analyses
  • Author and maintain coding and design standards for SFDC and ecosystem applications.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce engineering best practices, security standards, and declarative-first design principles
  • Build and maintain the technical backlog—translating platform observations, stakeholder needs, and audit findings into well-scoped engineering work
  • Proactively identify gaps in system design, data integrity, automation, and integrations; propose and deliver solutions before they become incidents
  • Conduct regular Org Health Assessments and define a continuous improvement roadmap for platform quality, security, and performance
  • Own Salesforce release management pipeline,  sandbox strategy, source code control, CI/CD tooling and assessment ensuring clean, auditable deployments

Development & Delivery

  • Design, build, test, and deploy solutions in an Agile framework using Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, REST/SOAP APIs, and platform events
  • Lead the technical design and implementation of Agentforce and AI-powered automation across GTM, customer support, and compliance workflows
  • Design and build integrations with internal and external systems, including Ironclad (CLM), Snowflake, and other GTM/RevOps tooling
  • Define testing strategy, write test scripts, and execute tests to meet quality and coverage standards across releases
  • Maintain high sprint velocity while upholding code quality and documentation standards

Security & Platform Hardening

  • Own hands-on remediation of Salesforce security findings across the full spectrum, session/certificate hardening, sharing model and default access control fixes, data exposure and classification gaps, public link/OAuth and connected app governance, and secure-coding fixes (SOQL injection, XSS, hardcoded credentials, sharing violations) surfaced by code scans
  • Leverage Salesforce Shield Event Monitoring to capture and analyze login, API, and transaction logs moving from passive log collection to proactive threat detection, anomaly alerts, and audit-ready reporting
  • Design for appropriate data classification, access controls, and auditability across compliance-critical Salesforce objects
  • Evaluate and implement platform monitoring/SSPM tooling recommendations, working cross-functionally with security and compliance stakeholders
  • Implement and maintain the org’s backup and recovery solution including configuring backup schedules, monitoring job health, and running restore/recovery procedures when needed

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers on the Business Systems team
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager to scope, estimate, and prioritize platform work
  • Translate complex business requirements from GTM, LRC, and Product Support into well-architected, scalable Salesforce solutions
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs and architecture decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Lead stakeholder demos and participate in Agile ceremonies including standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of Salesforce technical experience spanning development, configuration and architecture, including at least 2 years functioning in an actual Architect capacity with a strong, defensible point of view on technical direction(owning architecture decisions and their outcomes)
  • Deep hands-on experience with Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Experience Cloud
  • Experience with Revenue Cloud or a strong CPQ background with a demonstrated path toward Revenue Cloud migration work
  • Proficiency in Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, REST/SOAP APIs, and platform events
  • Direct experience leading or heavily contributing to a Salesforce security hardening effort
  • Proven experience conducting code reviews and enforcing engineering best practices on a platform team
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage a technical backlog translating org health findings, stakeholder requests, and architectural gaps into actionable engineering work
  • Experience proactively identifying system and process gaps and driving solutions to completion without requiring explicit direction
  • Experience architecting and building integrations with external systems (CLM, ERP, data platforms, or similar)
  • Familiarity with Agentforce, Einstein AI, or other Salesforce AI/automation capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage credibly with both engineers and senior business stakeholders
  • Ability to reliably prioritize and complete work independently with minimal supervision

Nice-To-Haves

  • Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or Application/System Architect credentials or equivalent demonstrated architect-level experience
  • Experience with SSPM/security monitoring tooling (e.g. Falcon Shield, Reco) or Salesforce Shield (Event Monitoring, Field Audit Trail)
  • Salesforce Revenue Cloud or CPQ Specialist certification
  • Experience with Ironclad or other CLM platforms
  • Experience with Tableau, Snowflake, Looker, or similar data platforms in a Salesforce integration context

As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to the technical direction for the team. You’ll own the architecture of major subsystems, lead complex projects that span multiple engineers, and raise the bar for design and code quality across the team. You’ll spend your time on the hardest technical problems, and multiply the team through design reviews, coaching, and mentorship.

This is a full-time, fully remote position.

Technologies You’ll Use

Python, GraphQL, Postgres, Snowflake, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, GCP, Datadog

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across the Metadata services, coordinating development across multiple engineers
  • Independently design and develop the architecture of new subsystems, and own team-level subsystems end to end
  • Use AI tooling and agents — across development and SDLC artifacts such as TDDs, PRDs, post-mortems, and test plans
  • Review and approve technical designs, ensuring they meet a high quality bar, and identify design deficiencies before they ship
  • Drive technical initiatives across the team’s responsibility areas — discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history
  • Set and uphold design, architecture, and coding best practices, and hold teammates accountable for code quality
  • Coach and mentor engineers, demonstrably improving the quality of code across the team
  • Write technical specs, document common components, and keep the team accountable for necessary project documentation
  • Fix and optimize critical parts of the codebase, drive incident follow-through, and advance the reliability and performance of the services you own
  • Participate periodically in the on-call rotation

Skills We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of leading complex, team-scope technical work to completion
  • Deep expertise designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical direction for a team and drive multi-engineer initiatives across an area of ownership
  • Excellent design and architecture judgment; identifies design flaws in existing systems and proposes sound solutions with clear trade-offs
  • Writes exemplary, well-tested code that serves as a model for others, and reliably estimates and delivers sprint to sprint
  • Strong track record of raising quality through code review, coaching peers, and enforcing accepted engineering practices
  • Experience partnering with QE on test strategy and owning operational health — incidents, post-mortems, reliability, and performance
  • Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and managing dev infrastructure
  • Fluent in using AI code assistants and coding agents to generate and investigate code, and conversational AI (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT) to author, review, and synthesize SDLC artifacts — and able to model those practices for a team

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in data processing (ETL, ELT) and/or cloud-based data platforms
  • Experience architecting metadata, catalog, lineage, or discovery/search systems
  • Experience with GraphQL APIs and high-throughput, multi-tenant data services
  • Familiarity with the analytics engineering workflow and the dbt ecosystem

What this role involves

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team, you’ll shape the systems that power every Affirm purchase after checkout — orders, captures, refunds, and settlement — and drive the technical strategy that lets our merchants and consumers transact reliably at scale. Your work raises the bar for reliability and simplicity across our engineering systems, keeping the platform highly available while defining the capabilities that unlock future product needs.

We’re a small, senior team doing high-leverage work within Financial Platforms. Today we’re consolidating the internal platform behind Affirm’s post-checkout APIs — drawing clean domain boundaries, migrating existing merchants, and enabling future product launches. You’ll set technical direction, mentor a strong group of engineers, and own decisions that matter for years.

What You’ll Do

¡ You will be responsible for setting technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale, and help your team tie it together with critical, business-impacting projects.

¡ You will collaborate across teams in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are well understood and managed.

¡ You will act as a force-multiplier for your team through your definition and advocacy of technical solutions and operational processes.

· You take ownership of your team’s operations and availability by ensuring you have the right monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, polcities, testing and alerting in place to support “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.

¡ You will foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting code review and design standards for your team, and advocating for them beyond your team through your writing and tech talks.

¡ You will help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

What We Look For

¡ You have 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.

¡ You have an extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.

· You are analytical and discerning in designing services with clear API boundaries, strong reliability characteristics, and thoughtful handling of consistency, idempotency, and failure modes — ideally in a payments, commerce, ledger, or other financially-sensitive domain.

¡ You have experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality in a system through the definition of a technical and execution plan. You write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.

¡ You thrive in ambiguity, and are comfortable moving from low level language idioms all the way to the architecture of large systems to understand how they work.

¡ Your growth and impact trajectory demonstrates that you have mastered gathering and iterating on feedback from your engineering and cross-functional peers.

¡ You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.

· This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  • You have 5+ years of hands-on Database Expertise, leveraging your deep knowledge of Relational and/or Distributed SQL such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB/Vitess  to optimize database performance, ensuring data integrity, and implementing efficient data access patterns. Should possess deep understanding of Database fundamentals including schema design, query optimization, scaling, partitioning, sharding and performance tuning in multiple functional environments. Strong background and expertise in building and operating databases in cloud environments. Expertise in database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning. Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, Pg Bouncer, etc.

  • You have experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality in a system through the definition of a technical and execution plan. You write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.

  • You thrive in ambiguity, and are comfortable moving from low level language idioms all the way to the architecture of large systems to understand how they work.

  • Your growth and impact trajectory demonstrates that you have mastered gathering and iterating on feedback from your engineering and cross-functional peers.

  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.

  • This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Engineer Site Reliability Engineer at Yuno

Staff Site Reliability Engineer sets reliability strategy and owns architectural decisions for AI agent infrastructure platform provisioning, deployment, and scaling across 190+ countries.

Lead Remote Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Remote ¡ Full Time ¡ Individual Contributor ¡ +7 Years of Experience

Site Reliability Engineer

Who We Are

Yuno is the AI-native operating system of global commerce, powering the financial infrastructure of enterprise merchants, banks, and wallets. Through a single API, Yuno connects them to pay-ins, payouts, fraud prevention, KYC/KYB, and stablecoins globally, so they can operate everywhere. Agnostic by design and connected to 1,000+ payment methods and 460+ integrations in 190+ countries, Yuno optimizes acceptance rates, reduces costs, and strengthens security through specialized AI agents that learn from every transaction. Global brands including McDonald’s, NetEase Games, GoFundMe, and Rappi run their payments on Yuno.

About The Role

Yuno is looking for a Staff Site Reliability Engineer to set the technical direction for reliability across our infrastructure — starting with the platform that provisions, deploys, and manages AI agents at scale on AWS, the system powering payments across 190+ countries. The platform is in production and growing, and we need the most senior reliability voice in the room to evolve the architecture and make sure it stays reliable, observable, and ready to scale.

This is not a “maintain what exists” role, and it’s not a single-system role. You’ll own the reliability strategy — driving architectural decisions, designing event-driven communication, defining how we measure and defend reliability, and setting the standards other engineering teams build on.

How AI Shows Up in This Role

  • The platform you own is Yuno’s AI agent infrastructure — provisioning and deploying AI agents at scale, plus the agents that route payments and prevent fraud. Keeping the AI-native layer reliable is the core of the role

  • AI is our default execution layer: you’re encouraged to use AI-assisted tooling across automation, runbooks, incident analysis, and root-cause investigations, and to help define how the wider engineering org adopts it. We care how you use it, not whether you do

Your Contribution Will Be

  • Reliability strategy and standards — define the SLO culture, error-budget policy, and incident practices that scale across engineering teams, turning reliability from firefighting into a measurable, org-wide discipline

  • Platform architecture and evolution — drive architectural decisions as the platform matures; the deciding voice on choosing technologies, designing systems, and when to evolve the infrastructure

  • Messaging and event-driven architecture — design and own the messaging layer for inter-service communication, replacing synchronous patterns with durable, reliable async messaging

  • Infrastructure and deployment — own the cloud infrastructure, automate provisioning with IaC, and ensure the platform scales reliably as transaction volume grows

  • Observability — build the monitoring, tracing, and alerting that keeps the platform healthy; when something breaks at 3am, your dashboards and alerts should explain why before anyone has to dig

  • Incident leadership and mentorship — act as the senior escalation point for the hardest production problems, run blameless postmortems and root-cause analyses that turn into permanent fixes, and raise the reliability bar by mentoring senior and mid-level engineers

  • Chaos engineering mindset— continuous fault injection and resilience experiments that surface weaknesses before they turn into incidents, plus identifying and proposing resilience patterns to prevent those failures from reaching production.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 6–12 months, you’ve set the reliability strategy for the platform, driven at least one major architectural evolution (event-driven messaging, streaming reliability, or observability), and engineering teams have adopted the SLO and error-budget framework you defined. You’re the person Yuno trusts with the hardest reliability calls.

Skills You Need

Minimum Qualifications

  • Event-driven architecture and messaging systems — you’ve designed and owned systems around message queues (Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ) and understand at-least-once delivery, consumer groups, dead letters, and backpressure; you’ve migrated a system from synchronous to async

  • Deep AWS — EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, and RDS — with strong networking fundamentals, since inter-service communication runs over the internal VPC

  • Infrastructure as Code — Terraform or Pulumi, reviewed in PRs rather than clicked in consoles

  • Kubernetes and Docker in production — container lifecycle, resource limits, health checks, and orchestration at scale

  • Observability and SLOs — Datadog fluency or equivalent (dashboards, monitors, APM, distributed tracing), and a track record defining and operating SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets across services

  • Chaos engineering and resilience testing — hands-on experience with fault injection, game days, or chaos experiments (Gremlin, Chaos Mesh, AWS FIS, or similar) to harden production systems

  • Distributed systems debugging — you’ve diagnosed async flows and cascading failures in production and can explain what broke and how you fixed it; comfortable coding for automation and tooling (Go, Python, or similar)

  • Databases — solid SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis): when to use each, indexing, replication, and performance tuning

  • Proven technical leadership — you’ve set reliability standards, influenced architecture across teams, and mentored engineers, not just owned your own scope

  • English — advanced proficiency, written and spoken

Preferred Qualifications

  • AI / MLOps infrastructure — running AI workloads in production (model serving, LLM inference, GPU/resource management, and agent evaluation/observability tools like LangFuse, LangSmith, Braintrust, or MLflow)

  • Multi-tenant container platforms — running customer or user workloads in containers (Replit, Railway, Fly.io, or internal PaaS)

  • Data pipelines and orchestration — Airflow, Prefect, or similar; data warehouses like Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery a plus

  • Incident management and on-call tooling — PagerDuty, Opsgenie, or incident.io

  • Experience in the payments industry

Nice to Have

  • ECS experience

  • s6-overlay for container process supervision

  • Experience with AI agent framework ecosystems

  • Spanish proficiency

What We Offer at Yuno

  • Competitive Compensation

  • Remote Work — you can work from everywhere

  • Home Office Bonus — a one-time allowance to set up your ideal home office

  • Work Equipment

  • Stock Options

  • Health Plan wherever you are

  • Flexible Days Off

  • Language, Professional, and Personal Growth courses

Engineer Principal AI Engineer at BuzzBoard

Designs and owns the core AI system architecture, agentic workflows, and retrieval pipelines that power multi-product AI agents in production.

Lead Remote Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Principal AI Engineer

BuzzBoard  ¡  Remote (WFH)  ¡  Engineering / AI

The role

BuzzBoard builds AI products for the B2SMB market — helping agencies, media companies, and sellers understand small businesses and market to them at a level of personalization that wasn’t previously economical. Our platform is built on frontier models end to end. Not AI features bolted onto a legacy product — the products are agent systems.

Our products span multi-agent marketing content generation, real-time AI voice intake, and pre- and post-sales intelligence for SMBs — Zylo, IRIS, Ignite, and Ember. They share a common internal pipeline for orchestration, retrieval, tool use, evaluation, and deployment.

This role owns the architecture underneath that pipeline. Not one feature — the shared layer every product depends on: how retrieval is built and measured, how agents reason and hold state and fail safely, which models run where and what happens when one degrades, how output quality is evaluated before it ships, and where the line sits between what a model decides and what deterministic code decides. You’ll set that architecture, build the reusable patterns products inherit, guide the engineers implementing them, and own whether it holds up in production at volume.

It’s a senior individual-contributor role. Two boundaries, stated plainly:

  • Not a research role. The deliverable is a shipped, reliable capability, not a paper or a demo.
  • Not a DevOps role. You need to be fluent in deployment and able to get a service into production, but full-time platform ownership sits elsewhere. Your center of gravity is AI system design.

If your GenAI experience is mostly notebooks and proofs of concept that never carried real traffic, this is not the role.

What you’ll own

AI system architecture. Design the systems behind content generation, business intelligence, recommendations, and agentic workflows — including where the boundary sits between what a model decides and what deterministic code decides. Create reusable patterns, prompts, evaluation flows, and orchestration layers that hold up across products rather than being rebuilt per feature.

Agentic workflows. Lead the design of agents that reason, call tools and APIs, manage state, checkpoint, and hand tasks off cleanly. Build the guardrails that keep them grounded and predictable — the hard part is not making an agent act, it’s making it fail safely and legibly when it’s wrong.

Retrieval and model strategy. Design RAG pipelines end to end: chunking, embeddings, metadata, reranking, and retrieval evaluation that actually measures whether the right context arrived. Own model selection across ecosystems on the axes that matter — cost, latency, accuracy, reliability — and define the fallback and model-switching behavior for when a provider degrades.

Evaluation and quality. Stand up the evaluation frameworks that decide whether an AI output ships: output quality, edit ratio, hallucination rate, schema adherence, latency, failure rate, inference cost. Build regression testing so a prompt or model change can’t silently break production. Turn “the output feels off” into a measured threshold.

Production readiness. Partner with engineering and platform teams so systems are deployable, observable, and maintainable. Package services (Python, FastAPI/Flask, Docker) when it’s the fastest path, and diagnose the production failure modes specific to AI — rate limits, cost spikes, model failures, degraded output — rather than escalating them blind.

Technical leadership. Mentor GenAI engineers, review designs and prompts and workflows and evals, and translate product requirements into architecture with measurable acceptance criteria. Communicate the tradeoffs to engineers and to leadership in language each can act on.

What we’re looking for

Required

  • 5+ years in engineering, AI, ML, or data-product work; 3+ years hands-on with GenAI / LLM systems
  • Production GenAI experience — non-negotiable. You have built or scaled systems that carried real traffic, and you can walk through one in detail: what broke, what it cost, what you changed.
  • Deep working knowledge of LLMs and SLMs: prompt engineering, structured outputs, tool and function calling
  • Hands-on with at least two major LLM ecosystems, and able to reason about the tradeoffs between them rather than defaulting to the one you know
  • RAG built for real: vector stores (Chroma, Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, or equivalent), embeddings, semantic search, and retrieval quality you’ve actually measured
  • Hands-on with at least one agentic framework (LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent) and the underlying concepts — memory, state, tool integration, failure handling — well enough to move across frameworks
  • Strong Python; comfortable with REST APIs, Docker, a cloud platform, and basic CI/CD
  • Demonstrated evaluation work: regression testing, hallucination checks, schema validation, output scoring — you can define metrics for quality, reliability, cost, and business impact
  • Track record guiding a small team or owning AI architecture end to end
  • Comfort creating structure in a fast-moving environment with shifting requirements

Preferred

  • Fine-tuning or supervised training workflows
  • SLM and open-source model deployment; model serving with vLLM, Ollama, or TensorRT-LLM
  • Multimodal work across text, image, audio, or video
  • Kubernetes or serverless deployment
  • Evaluation/observability tooling — LangSmith, MLflow, Weights & Biases, or equivalent
  • Marketing technology, SMB intelligence, or content-automation domain experience
  • Responsible AI, privacy, security, and compliance practice
  • Experience scaling AI systems that generate high volumes of content, recommendations, or insights

What we care most about

  • You’ve built or scaled real GenAI systems, not just demos
  • You design AI workflows that are reliable, testable, and cost-aware from the start
  • You make practical model, prompt, retrieval, and architecture calls and can defend them
  • You know how to balance model intelligence against deterministic logic and engineering guardrails
  • You stay hands-on while guiding engineers — neither purely a manager nor purely an IC
  • You think past “which model” to the whole system around the model

What this role is not

  • Not a research or publications role
  • Not full-time DevOps or platform ownership
  • Not a role for someone whose GenAI track record is demos that never took production traffic

What we offer

  • Fully remote
  • A production GenAI foundation already carrying real volume — you scale it, you don’t start from zero
  • Genuine architectural ownership over the agentic systems that come next
  • A small, high-context team that moves quickly and argues about the work
  • Real impact on small businesses

Apply if you’ve shipped GenAI systems that carried real traffic and you want to own the architecture of what comes next.

What this role involves

Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.

About the Team & Role:

The Machine Learning Platform team builds and operates the core infrastructure that powers AI and ML across Toast — the feature store, model hosting and serving, the experimentation platform, training pipelines, and the tooling ML engineers and data scientists rely on every day. Our work directly enables the models that drive personalization, forecasting, fraud detection, search, and the growing set of AI-powered experiences shipping to restaurants.

Toast is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to act as the technical leader on the ML Platform team, shaping the systems that will carry Toast’s AI and ML capabilities into the next decade. The role involves driving architectural direction across the platform, delivering foundational infrastructure that other teams build on, and elevating fellow engineers. The ideal candidate is a domain expert with considerable ML platform experience, who partners with ML engineers, data scientists, product, and infrastructure leadership on high-leverage opportunities.

This position suits an engineer comfortable writing production code, leading technical design for distributed systems, and influencing organizational decisions about how Toast builds and deploys ML.

A day in the life (Responsibilities):

  • Own technical direction of the ML Platform — feature store, model hosting and serving, experimentation, training infrastructure — driving architectural decisions around scalability, reliability, latency, and cost
  • Lead design and delivery of large-scope platform initiatives from conception through production, coordinating across ML, data, and infrastructure teams
  • Identify and resolve systemic technical challenges: online/offline feature parity, model deployment friction, experimentation velocity, GPU utilization, cross-team dependencies
  • Set and maintain a high engineering quality bar through hands-on code contributions, design reviews, and mentorship of platform and ML-adjacent engineers
  • Partner with ML engineering, data science, product, and platform leadership to translate ML strategy into technical roadmaps

What you’ll need to thrive (Requirements):

  • 10+ years delivering complex backend or infrastructure systems at scale
  • Direct experience building or operating core ML infrastructure — feature stores, model serving, experimentation platforms, training orchestration, or equivalent
  • Mastery of a modern backend language, ideally Java or Kotlin
  • Deep proficiency with distributed systems concepts: consistency, latency, throughput, fault tolerance, and observability
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, query languages, and the online/offline data patterns that underpin ML systems
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, with ability to drive cross-team alignment and influence engineering, product, and business stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

What will help you Stand Out (Nice to Haves):

  • Hands-on experience with open-source or commercial ML platform components (e.g. Tecton, MLflow, SageMaker, Databricks)
  • Experience building or operating experimentation / A-B testing platforms at scale
  • Familiarity with real-time streaming systems (Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming) and their use in feature computation
  • Experience serving LLMs or deep-learning models in production, including GPU capacity planning and inference optimization
  • Prior work supporting internal-developer-facing platforms with a product mindset

Engineer Staff Software Engineer, Affirm Bank at Affirm

Staff Software Engineer sets technical direction and owns core banking infrastructure, data platform, and operational tooling for Affirm's new bank.

Lead Posted 5 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

About the Role

Affirm is building its own bank — and this role is one of the most senior individual-contributor seats on the engineering team that runs it. We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be a technical anchor for a deliberately small, AI-native team that owns the systems behind Affirm’s bank: vendor-integrated banking infrastructure, the data platform, and the operational tooling that holds it all together. You’ll set technical direction across that surface area, own the hardest problems on the team — including the Bank ↔ Affirm Inc integration boundary — and operate with direct exposure to senior bank and Affirm leadership.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a new business from its very first systems — a startup-like build inside an established company — at a level of ownership that goes beyond delivering your own projects. As a Staff engineer here you set the bar: the architecture, the standards, and the technical strategy that the rest of the team builds against. The team is small and AI-native, the surface area is broad, and the decisions you make carry far — every system you ship serves real customers under a real bank charter, and the patterns you establish determine what the bank becomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Set technical direction across the bank’s systems. Own the medium-to-long-term technical strategy for the bank’s core surfaces — cloud infrastructure, data platform, core banking configuration, CI/CD, networking, and the Bank ↔ Affirm Inc integration — and make the architecture calls the rest of the team builds against. Generalist breadth is expected; you go deep where the risk is highest.
  • Own the hardest problems end-to-end. Personally design, build, integrate, and operate the most ambiguous and highest-stakes pieces of the stack, and own incident response for them. You take the problems no one else can fully scope and turn them into well-defined systems with clear failure domains, monitoring, and runbooks.
  • Be the force multiplier on a small team. Set and hold the bar for code review, design review, and examiner-readable documentation. Establish the patterns and standards that let a deliberately small team punch far above its size, and level up every engineer who joins after you.
  • Ship AI-first, and push the frontier of it. Treat AI tools and agentic workflows as a load-bearing capability for code, design review, runbook generation, and operations — and actively push yourself and the team on what an AI-leveraged engineering function can deliver in place of additional headcount.
  • Lead vendor selection and ownership. Drive evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight of the bank’s third-party platforms across the core, data, identity, observability, and card-processing stacks. Carry the bank’s most critical vendor relationships end-to-end: integration, operations, escalation, and audit.
  • Define the integration boundary with Affirm Inc. Set the domain edges, data flows, and integration patterns between the bank and Affirm Inc so the bank’s products work seamlessly inside the Affirm ecosystem while preserving the legal and regulatory separation the charter requires. Drive this across Affirm Inc engineering teams whose systems integrate with the bank’s.
  • Build for examiners. Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, BSA/AML, Finance, and Internal Audit so compliance is a property of the product from day one. The systems you design are the artifacts FDIC and state examiners will inspect — design and document them to a standard that holds up under examination and audit review.
  • Own the operational posture of the bank’s systems. Set the reliability, observability, alerting, runbook, incident-response, and disaster-recovery practices that keep the bank standalone-operable and audit-ready, while keeping the operational footprint intentionally small.
  • Influence up and across the organization. Communicate technical strategy, tradeoffs, and constraints with clarity to bank executives, the Bank Board, Compliance, Risk — and to engineers outside the bank across the broader Affirm org. The relationships you build beyond the team shape how cleanly the integration boundary works.
  • Help grow the team and the bar. As engineers join, they inherit a function whose architecture, practices, and standards you helped set. Mentor peers, provide high-signal feedback, contribute to hiring, and lead by example.

What We Look For

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with staff-level, hands-on builder credentials and a track record of owning ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end through launch and operations
  • Comfortable owning ambiguity at the largest scale on the team — you move fast, make the tough prioritization calls, take ownership before being asked, and balance speed with the engineering judgment the hardest decisions require
  • Hungry to leverage AI to drive outcomes — fluent with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, agentic workflows) and actively pushing yourself and your team to use them as a multiplier for code quality, velocity, and what a deliberately small team can ship
  • Bias toward simplicity — experience building toward a small, lean engineering culture that rewards “buy over build”, a default-deny posture, and standalone-operability over an abundance of tooling
  • A track record of setting technical direction — you’ve defined architecture and multi-quarter technical strategy for systems beyond your own projects, and led the execution of it across engineers and teams without needing a management title to do so
  • Deep systems thinking across public cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and cloud data platforms (Snowflake or comparable) — you understand their failure modes and tradeoffs, not just their surface APIs
  • Regulated-environment experience — direct work in banking, payments, securities, healthcare, or another setting subject to external examination, where the work involves examiner-facing documentation and decisions
  • Direct experience selecting, integrating, and operating meaningful third-party platforms under operational ownership after launch
  • Comfortable as the technical face of the work to non-engineering stakeholders — bank executives, the Board, Compliance, Risk, Finance, and examiners — and able to document decisions so they hold up under audit review
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication — you can distill complex technical, regulatory, and operational concepts into clear narratives for executives, boards, and non-engineering audiences

Nice to have

  • Prior work inside a bank, neobank, Banking-as-a-Service provider, card issuer/processor, or fintech with a chartered bank subsidiary
  • Direct experience with a de novo bank launch, an early-stage bank buildout, or a greenfield regulated platform

Engineer Engineering Lead at Celerity

Senior technical leader who builds and manages the engineering capability for a consulting practice, mentoring junior developers while directly contributing to client delivery engagements.

Lead Remote Posted 5 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Job Title: Engineering Lead

Location: Remote (Work from home eligible)

Company Overview: Celerity is a consulting firm specializing in utilities and energy sectors. We empower organizations by converting complex data into actionable intelligence to mitigate risk, optimize assets, and maximize project outcomes. Our background and expertise enable us to drive and deliver transformation and operational excellence for our clients.

Practice Overview: The Business Integration Services (BIS) practice is a high-growth technology consulting practice delivering enterprise-scale integration, digital transformation, and solution design engagements for complex, multi-stakeholder clients. The practice is in its third year of a structured build and scale phase, expanding from a founding team to a full-capability organization spanning four pillars: Project Management (PMO), Business/Technical Analysis, Solution Architecture, and Engineering.

The practice operates at the intersection of business strategy and technology execution, working closely with technology partners and vendors to deliver outcomes that are both architecturally sound and commercially meaningful. It is entering a pivotal phase of maturity, transitioning from practice-leads delivery to a structured operating model with defined build paths, methodology standards, and delivery governance.

Position Overview: The Engineering Lead is a senior technical leader who builds and runs the engineering capability of BIS practice. This is a dual-role position: the Engineering Lead is both a hands-on technical practitioner who contributes directly to client engagements and a people manager responsible for hiring, developing, and retaining Junior Developers who will grow into the practice’s core delivery workforce. This person is also a people manager while owning the internal operating infrastructure that allows the practice to scale without losing delivery quality or team cohesion. This is a founding role for the Engineering pillar. The Engineering Lead will define how engineering is practiced, how the Junior Developer team is structured, how quality standards are set, and how the pillar integrates with the BA and SA functions to deliver coherent solutions. The right candidate is someone who has already led small engineering teams in consulting or professional services contexts and is energized by the opportunity to build a function from a blank page.

This role demands strong operational leadership, industry knowledge, and technical fluency to drive results in complex client environments.

What makes this role distinctive: Most Engineering Lead roles sit inside an established function. This one is a founding role — the first engineering hire the practice has made. The person who takes this role will shape not just what the team builds, but how the practice thinks about engineering as a discipline. That requires both technical depth and organizational ambition.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Delivery:

  • Lead the engineering delivery function across all active client engagements, ensuring technical quality, architectural alignment, and delivery commitments are met
  • Serve as the senior technical authority on the engineering pillar — accountable for code quality, technical standards, tooling choices, and engineering methodology across the team
  • Contribute hands-on to client engagements, particularly in the early months as the Junior Developer team is being onboard and ramped to delivery readiness
  • Partner with the Solution Architecture pillar to translate architectural designs into engineering execution plans — bridging the gap between what should be built and how it gets built
  • Review and approve technical deliverables produced by Junior Developers before they are presented to clients or integrated into production environments
  • Lead technical scoping sessions with clients and partners, translating business requirements into engineering estimates, sprint plans, and delivery roadmaps
  • Own the engineering section of client-facing documentation: technical specifications, integration designs, deployment guides, and post-implementation handover materials

People Leadership & Junior Developer Development:

  • Directly manage Junior Developers — own their performance reviews, career development plans, day-to-day workload, and professional growth within the practice
  • Build a structured onboarding program for all Junior Developer hires, ensuring they reach delivery readiness within 60-90 days and are integrated into the practice culture
  • Provide daily technical mentorship and coaching to Junior Developers — code reviews, pair programming sessions, architecture walkthroughs, and real-time feedback on client deliverables
  • Set clear, measurable performance expectations for Junior Developers tied to technical milestones, delivery quality, and professional conduct standards
  • Identify development gaps early and build targeted learning plans — whether through internal mentorship, external training, certification programs, or stretch assignments on active engagements
  • Create a psychologically safe team environment where Junior Developers are encouraged to ask questions, surface technical risks, and grow without fear of punitive judgment for early-career mistakes
  • Plan for team growth — as the practice expands, the Engineering Lead will define when the team needs a mid-level engineer, what the role should look like, and how to build a sustainable engineering career ladder within the practice

Engineering Practice & Standards:

  • Define and maintain the engineering methodology for the BIS practice: coding standards, version control practices, code review processes, testing frameworks, deployment protocols, and documentation standards
  • Establish the technology stack and tooling used across client engagements — making deliberate, defensible choices about languages, frameworks, integration platforms, and development environments
  • Build reusable engineering assets — accelerators, templates, boilerplate components, and integration patterns — that reduce delivery time on future engagements and demonstrate the practice’s technical maturity to clients
  • Own engineering quality assurance: define what ‘done’ looks like for engineering deliverables, implement QA checkpoints in the delivery process, and ensure Junior Developer output meets the bar before it reaches clients
  • Stay current on emerging technologies relevant to the practice’s focus areas — enterprise integration, digital transformation platforms, cloud-native architectures, API ecosystems — and bring relevant innovations into the practice’s capability set

Partner & Vendor Technical Engagement

  • Represent the engineering pillar in conversations with technology partners and vendors, including technical solutioning, platform capability discussions, and proof-of-concept evaluations
  • Build and maintain technical relationships with key vendor engineering teams — ensuring the practice has access to sandbox environments, technical support, early release programs, and partner-level technical resources
  • Evaluate new technology platforms and vendor capabilities against the practice’s client needs — providing leadership with clear technical recommendations on which partnerships to invest in and why
  • Lead technical demos and proof-of-concept builds for clients and partners, showcasing the engineering team’s capability and the practice’s ability to deliver on complex integration challenges.

Cross-Pillar Collaboration:

  • Participate in the weekly delivery coordination sync with the leads — providing engineering status updates, flagging technical risks, and aligning on resource deployment across active engagements
  • Collaborate on requirements translation — ensuring business requirements are technically feasible before commitments are made to clients
  • Contribute to the practice’s go-to-market positioning — helping to articulate the engineering capability in proposals, capability statements, and client presentations
  • Support preparing engineering-related content for leadership reporting, practice reviews, and project/partner related updates

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree (Masters) is preferred.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a lead, principal, or staff engineer role carrying technical ownership of a product, platform, or delivery engagement
  • Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring junior engineers — comfortable with performance feedback, technical coaching, and career development conversations
  • Proven delivery experience in consulting, professional services, or client-facing environment — understands the difference between building internal products and delivering to external clients with commercial accountability
  • Strong hands-on proficiency in at least two of: enterprise integration platforms (MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services, AWS), cloud-native development (Azure, AWS, GCP), API design and management, microservices architecture, or digital transformation platforms
  • Experience leading technical scoping, estimation, and solution design in a pre-sales or project delivery context
  • Demonstrated ability to translate architectural designs into engineering execution — works fluently with architects without requiring over-specification
  • Strong communication skills — can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders, write clear documentation, and represent engineering credibly in client-facing settings
  • Proven track record as a people manager — comfortable owning performance reviews, difficult conversations, retention risk, and career development for experienced individual contributors
  • Experience working with Agile and Waterfall methodologies in SaaS companies or with system integrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust with experienced peers and direct reports who have strong professional identities and do not require or respond well to directive management styles
  • Comfort operating in a high-growth, structurally evolving environment where processes are being built while delivery is ongoing
  • Strong understanding of utility operations, asset management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to travel domestically and(or) internationally if required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience building or scaling an engineering function from early-stage — has defined standards, selected tooling, or stood up a team with minimal existing infrastructure
  • Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns: event-driven architecture, ETL pipelines, middleware orchestration, API gateway design, and data synchronization across heterogeneous systems
  • Exposure to digital transformation delivery contexts: ERP implementations, CRM integrations, digital workplace tooling, or cloud migration programs
  • Experience working alongside business analysts and solution architects in integrated delivery teams — understands how to receive and refine BA outputs and align to SA constraints
  • Prior experience with technology partner ecosystems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft, SAP, ServiceNow, MuleSoft) — holds or has held partner-level technical credentials
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipeline design, and infrastructure-as-code in a consulting delivery context

Preferred Certifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect — Associate or Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, or similar certifications.
  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer, ServiceNow Certified Application Developer, SAP Certified Development Associate or similar certifications.

The salary range for this position is provided in good faith and is subject to variation based on geographic location, candidate experience, and market conditions. Final compensation will be determined after a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications and alignment with the role.

Engineer Staff Software Engineer, Affirm Bank at Affirm

Staff Software Engineer sets technical direction and owns core infrastructure for Affirm's banking systems, including cloud architecture, data platforms, and AI-native workflows.

  • Hands-on experience with a bank core, card processing / issuer processor integration, or digital bank experience integration
  • Hands-on experience standing up a greenfield cloud organization — fresh cloud org, IAM model, and data platform — under a tight, default-deny security posture
  • Familiarity with the regulatory framework that shapes the work: FDIC examinations, GLBA / Reg P (affiliate data sharing), BSA/AML, Reg E, Reg DD, Reg Z, model risk, and third-party risk management
