Budgeting and financial model. Maintain the company’s financial model for internal planning purposes. Build the annual and quarterly budgets with department heads, track actual performance against plan, and report variances with recommended corrective action.

Financial control. Build the financial control function: approval and authorization procedures, spend controls, segregation of duties, and regular controls over cash, receivables, and payables.

Compliance and operations. Oversee payroll, multi-state tax registrations and filings, statutory reporting, and audit readiness. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and payment processing operations.

Finance Mercury: Chief Audit Officer

Chief Audit Officer leads Mercury's independent assurance program, overseeing risk management, internal controls, and regulatory compliance across the fintech company.

Exec Remote Posted 19 days ago We Work Remotely — Programming
What this role involves

Headquarters: San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within United States

Arthur C. Clarke famously said that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

At Mercury, we aim to deliver a magical experience to our customers who rely on us for their banking* and financial workflows. But behind the magic lies a lot of rigor—internal audit is a key part of keeping Mercury safe, resilient, and worthy of our customers’ trust.

As Mercury’s first Chief Audit Officer, you’ll lead the company’s independent assurance program that allows us to scale with confidence. You will serve as a strategic partner to the Board and Audit Committee, providing an objective, enterprise-wide view of our financial, operational, and technical resilience.

This role is about finding the right balance between high-velocity innovation and the rigorous expectations of our partner banks and regulators. By moving toward data-driven, continuous monitoring, you will ensure our growth is anchored in integrity. You’ll drive a culture of audit readiness where excellence is the baseline and regulatory exams result in no surprises.

Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.

Here are some of the things you will do:

  • Own the Audit Vision — evolve the risk-based internal audit strategy and ensure alignment with the company’s growth, regulatory expectations, and emerging risks.
  • Provide Independent Assurance — deliver objective evaluations to the Board and Audit Committee(s) on the effectiveness of our risk management, internal controls, and governance.
  • Ensure we Audit the Stack — own the audit universe; ensuring completeness of Audit coverage across Mercury. Oversee the audit program to ensure the plan includes the appropriate mix of technical and operational audits that dive deep into our business, automated movement of funds, and cloud infrastructure to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Validate the "Magic" — ensure our audit program includes timely validation that new and existing product workflows and financial controls are operating exactly as intended, identifying potential friction before it impacts the customer.
  • Bridge the Regulatory Gap — act as a key point of contact for our partner banks and regulators, providing them with the confidence that Mercury’s internal oversight is rigorous and proactive.
  • Automate Oversight — design and implement continuous monitoring systems that replace manual checklists with real-time, data-driven audit insights.
  • Champion SustainableRemediation — serve as the senior escalation point to partner with Engineering, Product, and Risk leads to ensure audit findings result in structural improvements, not just temporary fixes and that remediations are appropriately prioritized within the roadmaps, in line with risk.

There are lots of paths that could lead you to be successful in a role like this; we think the strongest candidates will have some of these experiences or attributes:

  • Bring proven leadership in audit — you’ve built or scaled internal audit functions within high-growth banking or financial services, ideally at the intersection of traditional finance and fintech innovation.
  • Have technical fluency — you are comfortable in a cloud-native, remote-first environment. You can discuss API integrity and automated controls as easily as you can discuss balance sheets and reconciliations.
  • Navigate the regulatory landscape with confidence — you know what regulators expect, you’re comfortable engaging directly with them, and you can help Mercury anticipate and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Maintain strong and effective independence — you have the fortitude to deliver difficult news and the diplomacy to ensure those insights lead to positive change.
  • Communicate clearly and simply — whether you’re talking to the Board, regulators, engineers, or product teams, you cut through jargon and make risk concepts understandable and actionable.
  • Balance protection with possibility — you know how to safeguard the company without slowing it down, and you see the audit function as a way to unlock and safeguard innovation, not stop it.
  • Lead with curiosity and vision — you’re ambitious about where audit can go in a modern fintech, and you bring the curiosity to explore new ideas, new markets, and new ways of serving customers safely.
  • Inspire and develop others — you build strong teams, mentor future leaders, and foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and trust across the company.

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity, and benefits.

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.

Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:

  • US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $275,400 - $361,400
  • US employees outside of the New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $247,900 - $325,250

  • Design, run, and report plan effectiveness analytics, attribution, and ROI modeling; propose and implement plan changes based on rigorous analysis.
  • Drive transparent, inclusive communications and enablement so sellers understand how they earn and how changes affect them.
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure compensation programs are ASC 606 compliant for revenue recognition and commission accounting, and comply with local regulations and tax practices.

Skills We’re Looking For

  • 15+ years of experience in sales compensation or sales strategy, including significant hands-on experience designing and operating global incentive programs at enterprise scale.
  • Deep knowledge of incentive plan mechanics across Enterprise, Commercial, and Channel sales, including quota and territory design, pay mix, accelerators, SPIFFs, and exception governance.

Finance VP Finance at Bastion

VP Finance leads financial planning, accounting operations, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial decision-making for a fintech startup.

Exec Hybrid Posted 30 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About Bastion

Bastion builds regulated financial infrastructure for modern businesses. Bastion’s full stack product suite covers stablecoin issuance, custodial wallet infrastructure, and global asset conversion rails, with the flexibility to deploy individual capabilities or combine them end-to-end.

Bastion’s regulated foundation underpins a compliance-first approach to risk management, ensuring the integrity and security of all financial activity within its systems. Bastion holds the appropriate licenses for its own operations, but can also act as a service provider, offering compliance and financial operations support under our customers’ licenses.

Overview

We are hiring a VP of Finance to Build scalable finance systems, processes, and infrastructure. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll own the numbers end to end, from month-end close to regulatory filings to the financial models that inform how the company allocates capital and prices its products.

You need to be someone who has lived inside the details of accounting and financial reporting, and who can also zoom out to drive strategic financial planning, build FP&A capabilities, and partner with leadership on decisions that shape the business. The ideal candidate comes from a controller or senior accounting background with meaningful exposure to strategic finance—someone who’s equally comfortable reviewing journal entries, building customer-level P&Ls and pricing models, and presenting financial analysis to the board.

Experience in highly regulated industries (financial services in particular) is a strong bonus. Bastion operates under a NYDFS trust charter, which means the finance function carries specific regulatory reporting obligations — but what matters most is the foundation: technical accounting depth, controls discipline, and the judgment to operate in a regulated environment. The specific regulatory requirements are learnable for someone with the right base.

You’ll report to the COO.

While there is a preference for the role to be based in NYC, we are open to candidates across the United States.

Work to Be Done

Instead of a list of requirements, we want to give you a directional look into the first 30, 90, and 180 days on the job.

We are a startup, so the pace is fast and the specific work will change. People who thrive here are finding ways to contribute in their first week, and fully productive in their third month. You need to be okay with that.

If you think this is something you can handle, we will be excited to speak with you.

First 30 days: Get into the details and start owning the numbers

  • Immerse yourself in Bastion’s financial infrastructure.

  • Review all active regulatory reporting obligations—understand what gets filed, when, with which regulators, and who currently prepares each submission.

  • Meet with Legal, Compliance, and Risk to understand the regulatory landscape that drives your reporting obligations and how the regulatory environment is expected to evolve

  • Partner with the team to understand their domains, where handoffs happen, and where accounting and treasury workflows need tighter integration

  • Review the current FP&A cadence: how budgets are built, how actuals are tracked against plan, what visibility leadership and department heads have into their spending, and where the gaps are

  • Outcomes

    • You can speak to the company’s financial position, close process, and regulatory reporting obligations with full confidence—no one needs to fill in gaps for you

    • A clear assessment of the internal controls environment with a prioritized remediation plan for any gaps

    • The finance team and cross-functional partners understand your operating style and know you’re in the details

By 90 days: Own the close, the controls, and the reporting rhythm

  • Run the month-end close process and drive improvements: reduce cycle time, improve accuracy, eliminate manual workarounds, and establish a close calendar that the team can execute reliably every month

  • Take ownership of all regulatory reporting: ensure every filing is accurate, complete, and submitted on time. Build the review and sign-off process so that regulatory submissions don’t depend on a single person’s institutional knowledge

  • Build the FP&A rhythm the business needs: monthly budget-vs-actual reporting, department cost allocation, variance analysis, and the financial visibility that department leads and leadership currently lack

  • Outcomes

    • The close runs on a predictable calendar with documented procedures—anyone on the team can explain what happens and when

    • Regulatory filings are submitted on time with a clear audit trail from source data to final submission

    • Leadership has monthly financial reporting they can actually use

    • An internal controls framework is documented and testing has begun on the highest-risk areas

By 180 days: Scale the function and drive strategic financial impact

  • Own the annual planning process: build the financial model, facilitate department-level budgeting, and produce the plan that connects revenue targets to headcount to burn rate to runway

  • Prepare the finance function for increasing regulatory complexity: as the company’s regulatory footprint expands, ensure that reporting capabilities, controls, and processes scale ahead of the requirements rather than scrambling to catch up

  • Develop your team: assess capabilities, identify gaps, make hiring recommendations, and build the finance organization that the company will need over the next 12-18 months

  • Outcomes

    • The finance function operates at a level of maturity that exceeds what regulators, auditors, and enterprise customers expect from a company our size

    • The board and leadership team trust the numbers: financial reporting is accurate, timely, and actionable

    • Internal controls are a strength. The company can point to a documented, tested control environment in any regulatory examination or customer due diligence process

Bastion provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, and placement. Bastion participates in E-Verify to authorize eligibility of employment in the United States.
